Subtitle
Do not hold my wrong against me, Sugriva:
fate dragged my mind astray.
It was not our lot, brother,
to be happy together.

Translation
Deserving comfort, raised in comfort,
a child, but no fool:
see him fallen on the ground,
Angada, his face full of tears.
My son, dearer to me than life,
as a son of your own body,
bereft of me, let him lack nothing:
protect him in every way.
Subtitle
Look at Angada, fallen on the ground,
his face wet with tears.
He is dearer to me than life.
Guard him as your own son.

And this daughter of Sushena,
in judging the fine points of affairs
and in omens of every kind,
is sure in every way.
Whatever she says is good,
do it, free of doubt;
for nothing Tara judges
ever turns out otherwise.
Subtitle

What she calls good, do without doubt.
Tara's counsel never proves false.

Translation
And you must do Raghava’s work
without misgiving;
it would be adharma not to do it,
and, slighted, he might strike you down.
And put on this golden chain,
heavenly, Sugriva;
a noble glory dwells in it,
which would leave it once I am dead.
Subtitle

its glory lives in it,
and would leave it when I die.

Keep now to time and place,
bearing the pleasant and the unpleasant;
bearing joy and sorrow in their time,
live under Sugriva’s rule.
Do not go with his foes,
nor with his enemies, tamer of foes;
intent on your lord’s good, restrained,
live under Sugriva’s rule.
लीला
