na tāta mohaṃ pratigantum arhasi yatrendrajij jīvati rākṣasendra
nendrāribāṇābhihato hi kaś cit prāṇān samarthaḥ samare 'bhidhartum
Translation
Father, you must not sink into a swoon,
lord of rakshasas, while Indrajit lives;
for none struck by the arrows of Indra’s foe
can hold on to life in battle.
लीला
तात, इन्द्रजित के जीते जी आप शोक में न डूबें। मेरे बाणों से बिंधकर रण में कोई प्राण नहीं बचा पाता।
Subtitle
Father, do not faint with grief
while Indrajit lives.
No one my arrows strike
keeps his life in battle.

his life gone, lying on the ground,
every limb thick with sharp shafts.

आज आप देखेंगे, राम और लक्ष्मण धरती पर पड़े हैं, मेरे बाणों से छिन्न-भिन्न, अंग-अंग तीखे बाणों से भरा, प्राणहीन।
Subtitle
Today you will see Rama and Lakshmana
torn by my arrows,
lying on the ground,
lifeless, shafts in every limb.

Translation
You have no rival, son;
Indra was beaten by you in battle.
How much more will you slay Raghava,

पुत्र, रण में तुम्हारा कोई जोड़ नहीं। तुमने इन्द्र को भी जीता है। फिर राघव तो एक साधारण मनुष्य है, उसे तुम क्यों न मारोगे?

You have no equal, son;
you conquered Indra in battle.

Translation
Again, Lakshmana, that rakshasa lord,
foe of the king of gods, relying on Brahma’s weapon,
has struck down the fierce monkey army,
and harries us with arrows without pause.

लक्ष्मण, इन्द्र का वह शत्रु फिर ब्रह्मास्त्र का आश्रय लेकर आया है। वानर-सेना को गिराकर अब वह लगातार हम पर बाण बरसा रहा है।
Subtitle
Lakshmana, again Indra's enemy
has taken up Brahma's weapon.
He has felled the monkey host,
and now his arrows beat on us, unceasing.

Translation
Granted a boon by the Self-born, the mighty one
stands in the sky, his dread body hidden;
how can Indrajit be slain in battle today,
his body vanished, his weapon raised?
लीला
स्वयंभू ब्रह्मा से उसे वर मिला है। वह आकाश में खड़ा है, उसका भयंकर शरीर छिपा है। अस्त्र उठाए उस अदृश्य इन्द्रजित को आज रण में कैसे मारें?
Subtitle
The Self-born gave him a boon.
In the sky, his dread body hidden,
bodiless, his weapon raised:
how can we kill him today?

Translation
I think it is the blessed Self-born, beyond thought,
whose weapon this is, and who is its source.
So, wise one, bear this fall of arrows here today
with me, with an untroubled mind.

यह अस्त्र उन अचिन्त्य भगवान स्वयंभू का है। इसलिए, बुद्धिमान, आज यहाँ मेरे साथ शांत मन से इन बाणों का प्रहार सहो।
Subtitle
This weapon is the Self-born's,
the lord beyond thought.
Bear these arrows here with me, wise one,
with a steady mind.

Translation
Seeing us two fallen, senseless,
out of the fight, our anger and joy struck down,
he will surely enter the home of the gods’ foe,
taking with him the glory of the battlefront.
लीला
हम दोनों को अचेत, रण से विरत गिरा देखकर वह निश्चय ही रण की विजयश्री लेकर अपने नगर लौट जाएगा।
Subtitle
When he sees us fallen, senseless,
out of the fight,
he will surely go home to his city
with the glory of the battle.

mā bhaiṣṭa nāsty atra viṣādakālo yad āryaputrāv avaśau viṣaṇṇau
svayambhuvo vākyam athodvahantau yat sāditāv indrajidastrajālaiḥ
tasmai tu dattaṃ paramāstram etat svayambhuvā brāhmam amoghavegam
tan mānayantau yadi rājaputrau nipātitau ko 'tra viṣādakālaḥ
Translation
Do not be afraid; this is no time for despair,
that the two princes lie helpless and limp;
it is bearing the Self-born’s word
that they were felled by Indrajit’s net of weapons.
The Self-born gave him this supreme weapon,
Brahma’s own, whose force never fails;
if, honouring it, the princes have fallen,
what time is this for despair?
लीला
डरो मत। यह विषाद का समय नहीं। दोनों राजकुमार स्वयंभू के अस्त्र का मान रखते हुए विवश पड़े हैं। फिर विषाद कैसा?
Subtitle
Do not fear; this is no time to despair.
The Self-born gave him this weapon.
The princes fell honouring it:
why despair?

Now that this army
of swift monkeys is struck down,
whoever still holds on to life,

पराक्रमी वानरों की इस गिरी हुई सेना में जो-जो अभी साँस ले रहा है, चलिए, हम दोनों उसे जाकर आश्वासन दें।
Subtitle
In this struck-down army
of mighty monkeys,
whoever still holds on to breath,
let us go and comfort him.

I cannot see you with my eyes.

महाबली राक्षसराज, मैं तुम्हें स्वर से पहचान रहा हूँ। तीखे बाणों की पीड़ा से मैं आँखों से तुम्हें देख नहीं पाता।
Subtitle
Mighty lord of rakshasas,
I know you by your voice.
Racked by sharp arrows,
I cannot see you with my eyes.

as for the son of the Wind.

आर्य, दोनों राजकुमारों को छोड़कर आप पवनपुत्र के विषय में क्यों पूछते हैं? न राजा सुग्रीव, न अंगद, न राघव के प्रति आपने ऐसा स्नेह दिखाया।

Hear, tiger among the Nairritas,
why I ask after Maruti.
While that hero lives,
the army, though slain, is not slain;
if Hanuman has given up his life,
we, though living, are slain.

सुनो, मैं उसके विषय में क्यों पूछता हूँ। उस वीर के जीते जी यह मरी हुई सेना भी मरी नहीं। और यदि हनुमान ने प्राण त्याग दिए, तो हम जीते हुए भी मरे हुए हैं।
Subtitle
Hear why I ask.
While that hero lives,
the slain army is not slain.
If he is gone, we living are dead.

If Maruti lives, my son,
who is like the Wind,
like Fire in valour,
then there may be hope of life.

तात, यदि पवन-सा वेगवान, अग्नि-सा पराक्रमी पवनपुत्र जीवित है, तो जीवन की आशा है।
Subtitle
If the Wind's son lives, my son,
swift as the wind, fierce as fire,
then there is hope of life.

Translation
Come, tiger among monkeys;
it is for you to save the monkeys.
No other has the valour for it;
you are their greatest friend.
This is the hour for your might;
I see no one else.

आओ, वानरश्रेष्ठ, तुम्हें ही वानरों की रक्षा करनी है। किसी और में इतना पराक्रम नहीं। तुम इनके परम सखा हो। यह तुम्हारे पराक्रम की घड़ी है।

gatvā paramam adhvānam upary upari sāgaram
himavantaṃ nagaśreṣṭhaṃ hanūman gantum arhasi
Translation
Gladden the ranks
of the bear and monkey heroes,
and draw the arrows from these two,
Rama and Lakshmana, laid low.
Travelling the farthest way,
high, high above the ocean,
to Himavan, best of mountains,
you must go, Hanuman.
लीला
रीछों और वानरों की सेनाओं में फिर हर्ष भरो, और राम-लक्ष्मण को बाणों से मुक्त करो। हनुमान, सागर के ऊपर-ऊपर लंबी राह तय करके पर्वतराज हिमालय जाओ।
Subtitle
Gladden the bear and monkey armies;
draw the arrows from Rama and Lakshmana.
Go the long road over the ocean
to Himavat, king of mountains.

tayoḥ śikharayor madhye pradīptam atulaprabham
sarvauṣadhiyutaṃ vīra drakṣyasy auṣadhiparvatam
Translation
There you will see golden Rishabha,
towering, finest of mountains,
and the peak of Kailasa too,
slayer of foes.
Between those two peaks,
ablaze, of matchless light,
filled with every herb, hero,
you will see the mountain of herbs.
लीला
वहाँ तुम स्वर्णिम ऋषभ पर्वत और कैलास का शिखर देखोगे। उन दोनों शिखरों के बीच, अनुपम प्रभा से दमकता, सब ओषधियों से भरा ओषधि-पर्वत दिखेगा।
Subtitle
You will see golden Rishabha
and the peak of Kailasa.
Between the two peaks, blazing, matchless,
stands the mountain of all herbs.

tāḥ sarvā hanuman gṛhya kṣipram āgantum arhasi
āśvāsaya harīn prāṇair yojya gandhavahātmaja
Translation
On its summit, tiger among monkeys,
you will see four herbs growing,
shining, lighting up
the ten directions:
the reviver of the dead,
the healer of arrow wounds,
the restorer of colour,
and the great herb that joins.
Take them all, Hanuman,
and come back quickly;
son of the Wind, give the monkeys
back their lives, and comfort them.
लीला
उसके शिखर पर चार ओषधियाँ उगती हैं, जो दसों दिशाएँ आलोकित करती हैं, मृतसंजीवनी, विशल्यकरणी, सौवर्णकरणी और संधानी। हनुमान, उन सबको लेकर शीघ्र लौटो!

पर्वतराज, क्या तुमने यही ठान लिया है कि राघव पर दया न करोगे? तो देखो, आज मेरी भुजाओं के बल से तुम उखड़कर बिखर जाओगे!
