Jatayu falls

Valmiki · Aranya Kanda
3.51.21–3.52.13 (CrEd 3.49.17–3.50.12)

Jatayu shames Ravana as a coward walking the road of thieves and dares him to fight. Ravana draws his sword and cuts off the old vulture's wings, feet and flanks, and Jatayu falls. Sita clings to the trees and cries for Rama and Lakshmana, but Ravana seizes her by the hair and carries her into the sky, while Brahma says the deed is done.
