Jambavan's reminder; the leap

Valmiki · Kishkindha Kanda
4.64.1–5.1.44 (CrEd 4.63.1–5.1.40)

On the shore of the ocean, Angada asks who can leap the hundred yojanas to Lanka, and each monkey leader names how far he can go; none can go so far. Old Jambavan turns to Hanuman, sitting silent and apart, and reminds him whose son he is. Hanuman grows, climbs Mahendra and leaps for Lanka.

Translation

So stretch yourself and stride out;
you are the best of all who leap.
This whole monkey army
longs to see your valour.
Rise, tiger among monkeys,
leap across the great ocean;
for your range, Hanuman,
is beyond all beings.
All the monkeys are downcast;
Hanuman, why do you hold back?
Stride out, mighty in speed,
as Vishnu took his three strides.
