Translation
Hearing his brother’s command,
resisting none of it,
he set Maithili aboard first,
then climbed aboard, self-possessed.
Then, of himself, the splendid one,
Lakshmana’s elder brother, boarded;
and then the Nishada lord,
Guha, urged on his kinsmen.
Taking leave of Sumantra,
and of Guha with his men,
Rama, seated in the boat,
urged the boatmen on.
Then, urged on by them, that boat,
held steady by its helmsman,
driven by the sweep of the fine oars,
swiftly passed over the water.
Subtitle
Steered by its helmsman,
the boat sped across the water.
