Guha's suspicion

Valmiki · Ayodhya Kanda
2.83.18–2.92.31 (CrEd 2.77.18–2.86.29)

Bharata camps his army on the Ganga's bank, and Guha, king of the Nishadas, fearing he comes to harm Rama, arms his boatmen, until Bharata's answer clears his doubt. Guha tells him how Lakshmana kept watch the night Rama slept there, and at the bed of grass Bharata vows to live as Rama lives. Ferried across, he meets Bharadvaja, who tests him with the same suspicion, feasts the army, and tells him Rama is on Chitrakuta.
