Now that the time is past
that Sugriva himself set,
the fast unto death befits
all of us who dwell in the forest.
Sugriva is harsh by nature,

Translation
Here was a holy hermitage,
honoured even by the gods,
where a sage named Nishakara
lived in fierce austerity.
…
“Your wings and your wing-feathers
will grow again, anew.
…
They will come, seeking her,
monkeys, Rama’s messengers;
of Rama’s queen you must tell
those monkeys, O bird.
Do not go anywhere at all;
such as you are, where would you go?
Wait for the place and the hour;
your wings will be yours again.”
लीला
निशाकर ऋषि ने मुझसे कहा था: "तुम्हारे पंख फिर उगेंगे। राम के दूत, वानर, यहाँ आएँगे; उन्हें राम की रानी का पता बताना। सही समय की राह देखना।"
Subtitle
The sage Nishakara told me:
"Your wings will grow again.
Rama's monkeys will come seeking his queen: tell them.
Wait for the hour."

As Sampati was speaking so
with the monkeys,
his two wings sprang up then
before the forest-rovers’ eyes.
Seeing his body with wings
risen anew, red-feathered,
he knew joy beyond compare,
and spoke this to the monkeys.

Translation
By the power of the great sage
Nishakara, of boundless soul,
my wings, burnt by the sun’s rays,
have risen again.
The valour that was mine
when I was in my youth,
that same I know today,
the strength, the manhood too.

Hearing those words of his,
their hearts thrilled with joy,
the tigers among monkeys turned
eager for valour and its rising.

the best of monkeys, their manhood won back,
set out toward Abhijit’s quarter,
eager to search for Janaka’s daughter.
