śvaḥ prabhāte gamiṣyāmi pratīcīṃ vāruṇīṃ diśam
English
Blessed one, I would lodge here;
on my elder’s business I have come.
At dawn tomorrow I shall go
west, to Varuna’s quarter.

भगवन्, मैं यहाँ रहना चाहता हूँ; मैं अपने बड़े के काम से यहाँ आया हूँ। कल भोर में मैं पश्चिम की ओर, वरुण की दिशा में, जाऊँगा।

Hearing the words of Shatrughna,
the bull among sages laughed
and answered the great-souled one:
“Welcome, O most glorious;
this hermitage, gentle one, is your own,
the house of the Raghus’ line.
Seat, water for the feet, the guest-offering:
take them from me, and have no doubt.”

शत्रुघ्न की बात सुनकर मुनिश्रेष्ठ हँसे और उस महात्मा से बोले: “हे महायशस्वी, तुम्हारा स्वागत है। सौम्य, यह आश्रम रघुवंशियों के कुल का अपना ही है। मेरा आसन, पाँव धोने का जल और अर्घ्य निःसंकोच स्वीकार करो।”

Having eaten, the strong-armed one
spoke to the great seer:
“This splendour of sacrifice of old,
near the hermitage: whose was it?”

भोजन करके उस महाबाहु ने महर्षि से कहा: “आश्रम के पास यह पुराना यज्ञ का वैभव किसका है?”

the boys, the sons of the sages,

Sita’s happy delivery:
“Make its protection, great radiant one,
the rite that destroys evil beings.”

Hearing those words of theirs,
the sage was filled with joy,
and made for the two a guard that slays spirits,
the rite that destroys rakshasas.
Taking a fistful of kusha,
and its cut ends, the twice-born,
Valmiki gave the two
the rite that destroys evil beings.

उनकी वह बात सुनकर मुनि हर्ष से भर गए और उन दोनों के लिए भूतों को मारने वाली, राक्षसों का नाश करने वाली रक्षा की। उन द्विज वाल्मीकि ने मुट्ठी भर कुश और उसका कटा भाग (लव) लेकर उन दोनों को बुरे प्राणियों का नाश करने वाली रक्षा दी।

akurvaṃś ca tato rakṣāṃ tayor vigatakalmaṣāḥ
tathā tāṃ kriyamāṇāṃ tu rakṣāṃ gotraṃ ca nāma ca
English
They took that protection, intent,
from the hand of the sage,
and, free of stain, they made
the protection for the two.
And as the rite was being done,
the lineage and the names…
